How GitLab is transforming the future of remote work 介绍了 GitLab 的远程工作机制:

  • At GitLab, meetings, memos, notes, and more are available to everyone within the company—and, for the most part, to everyone outside of it, too.
  • Reeder’s first issue was a more-than–100-step-long to-do list of onboarding tasks, covering everything from the logistical (setting up two-factor authentication) to the social (reaching out to a random coworker and scheduling a “coffee chat”).
  • Employees are expected to spend their first two weeks checking off each item on this list before beginning their actual work.
  • Employees are encouraged to document virtually everything. Because of GitLab’s asynchronous work style, meetings are optional.
  • Notes and memos for all but the most closely guarded product-development plans are posted online for employees—and others—to view.
  • These norms and procedures are recorded in the company’s handbook, which covers nearly every facet of the company’s business model and philosophy.

The pandemic has forced many companies to start working remotely, and in fact, quite a few of them started working remotely before the pandemic. GitLab, for example, is a company that goes along with GitHub, and they’re also the largest remote company (bigger than WordPress’ parent company, Automattic). Fast Company recently wrote an article [How GitLab is transforming the future of remote work](https://www.fastcompany.com/90548691/extremely-transparent-and-incredibly-remote-gitlabs-radical-vision-for-the- future-of-work) to introduce GitLab’s remote work mechanism.

This is a very enlightening article. How do you stay productive working remotely?
