Weekly Book Club 035 (Exclusive) - Deep Work

One book per week:)

(The English version follows)

  1. 深度工作是一种难得的技能,需要不断训练才能保持;
  2. 在日益嘈杂的当下,掌握并实践深度工作能够帮助脑力工作者提高产出;
  3. 持续不断的深度工作是非常困难的,每天能有一定时长的深度工作就能帮助你走得很远;
  4. 人们每天都在和自己的欲望抗争,深度工作就是和不断的分心这一欲望抗争;
  5. 尝试同一时间内完成的东西越多,最后达成的效果越差;
  6. 每天深度工作完就要即时退出,退出之后就不要想之前的工作,否则会破坏第二天的工作;

Readwise once counted the most frequently tagged books on their platform, and Cal Newport had three books in the top ten (check Daily Productive Sharing 132 - 20210216). The computer professor is so prolific because of his focus on what he calls deep work. Today's share is the book with the same name Deep Work. In this book, he discusses in detail what deep work is and how to maintain it:

  1. deep work is a rare skill that requires continuous training to maintain.
  2. mastering and practicing deep work can help brain workers increase their output in an increasingly noisy environment.
  3. it is very difficult to work deeply on a consistent basis, and being able to work deeply for a certain length of time each day can help you get very far.
  4. people struggle with their own desires every day, and deep work is a struggle with the desire to be constantly distracted.
  5. the more things you try to accomplish at the same time, the worse the final result achieved.
  6. quit instantly after deep work every day, and not to think about the previous work after quitting, otherwise it will damage the next day's productivity.
