Daily Productive Sharing 1110 - Noguchi System

One helpful tip per day:)

How can you effectively organize a large number of paper documents? Fernando Gros introduces the Noguchi Filing System, invented by economist Yukio Noguchi:

  1. Prepare large envelopes, big enough to hold your paper documents, with each envelope representing a category;
  2. Cut open the seal of each envelope and have a marker pen ready;
  3. When you have new documents to organize, if they belong to an existing category, place them in the corresponding envelope and move that envelope to the top of the stack;
  4. If the new documents don’t fit any existing category, take a blank envelope, place the documents inside, label it with the new category, and place it at the top of the stack;
  5. The beauty of this system is that frequently used envelopes naturally stay at the top of the stack, while less-used ones gradually move to the bottom—without requiring extra effort.

如何有效整理繁多的纸质文件?Fernando Gros 介绍了由经济学家 Yukio Noguchi 发明的 Noguchi 整理法:

  1. 准备一些大信封,尺寸大小足够放你的纸质文件,每个信封是一个归类;
  2. 把信封封口剪开,然后准备一支记号笔;
  3. 一旦有新文件要整理,如果属于已经有的归类,就放到对应的信封里,然后把信封放在这一摞的顶部;
  4. 如果新文件不属于任何一个分类,就取一个空白信封,把新文件放进去,然后在信封上写上类别,并把信封放在这一摞的顶部;
  5. 最妙的是,因为我们每次都归类好的信封放在顶部,那么最频繁使用的信封会自然而然地躺在顶部,而不怎么使用的信封会慢慢落到底部。无需我们干预。
