Daily Productive Sharing 1241 - The Deep Work Routine

One helpful tip per day:)

Dan Koe believes attention is like memory—it needs regular resetting to stay focused on what truly matters:

  1. You don’t need more motivation—you need clearer direction.
  2. You also don’t need more time—you need more focused attention.
  3. Human conscious attention can only process about 50 bits of information per second, while our subconscious handles up to 11 million bits from learned skills.
  4. Most people scatter their attention the moment they check their phones in the morning.
  5. A good life requires consistent effort aimed at your own goals.
  6. You’re inefficient because you lack a clear target.
  7. Distraction is the seed of entropy—it pulls energy away from your true aim.
  8. Boredom stems from excessive self-focus.
  9. Anxiety comes from an overactive self-awareness.
  10. You must focus not only on today’s task, but also on your broader life vision.
  11. Life can be treated like a game—deep work is a core mission that earns you XP and skill upgrades.
  12. For example, you can work on a meaningful project before your 9 a.m. job, buying yourself more freedom over time.
  13. Limiting priorities to 2–3 forces you to make real trade-offs and align with long-term goals.
  14. “I don’t have time to think about what to write—I just start writing, because the clock is ticking.” If I don’t finish, even better—that triggers the Zeigarnik Effect, where the brain fixates on unfinished tasks, making it easier to return to deep work later.
  15. If you neglect your health, relationships, or personal life, your productivity suffers—because you lack a reason to stop working, leading to mental drift.
  16. Only allow yourself shallow work after completing deep work.
  17. In the future of work, creators who work less may thrive. As AI handles nearly everything, your storyinsight synthesis, and authentic experiences will be your only moat.

Dan Koe
