Daily Productive Sharing 1281 - 3 Decisions to Determine You Rich

One helpful tip per day:)

Dan Koe believes that the only way to get rich is: (1) to set the value of your time at an almost delusional hourly rate; (2) to be obsessed with getting rich; (3) to leave yourself no way out except becoming wealthy.

  1. He realized early on that he couldn’t accept working 8–10 exhausting hours a day just to earn $80,000 to $150,000 a year, slaving away at a job where he felt no sense of ownership or passion—especially when he could clearly see that some people were doing meaningful work, working fewer hours, yet making 100 times more money.
  2. Those who endlessly moralize and spiritualize money simply cannot imagine a life where they are no longer bound by it.
  3. The true purpose of setting an aspirational, high hourly rate is to force yourself to make better decisions and to train your brain to spot opportunities that place you in positions of higher leverage.
  4. If your aspirational hourly rate doesn’t feel “impossible,” then it’s not high enough—or so he believes.
  5. Every single moment of focused effort is a chance to reshape your brain to become closer to the person you want to be.
  6. Visualizing your goals all day long does improve learning—but only if you pair it with real-world challenges that are appropriately difficult.
  7. The “golden zone” for challenge is around 85% difficulty—not so hard it creates anxiety, and not so easy it becomes boring.
  8. To make this more practical, he suggests first writing a list of things you refuse to do.
  9. Then, create a list of things you absolutely must do.
  10. The deeper you think about your actions, the clearer it becomes why you haven’t yet become rich.
  11. He says some of the best decisions he’s ever made have come from treating his money as a “forcing function” to create more wealth.
  12. For him, those three decisions—setting an aspirational hourly rate, focusing his efforts, and leaving himself no way out—together created the perfect conditions that allowed him to earn far more than he ever imagined when he was younger.

Dan Koe
