One helpful tip per day:)

How do we make changes? Nick Maggiulli offers an explanation — either increase present pain or lessen imagined future pain:

  1. If the imagined future pain feels lighter than current pain, we’ll naturally make changes;
  2. If the imagined future pain is very high, then we’ll need willpower to continue, which is often difficult;
  3. If you attempt change but fail, it’s likely because either present pain isn’t strong enough, or the imagined future pain is too overwhelming. So, focus on adjusting one of these factors.

如何做出改变?Nick Maggiulli 给出了一个解释 -- 要么提高当下的痛苦,要么减轻想象中的未来痛苦:

  1. 如果想象中的未来痛苦轻于当下的痛苦,我们自然而然会做出改变;
  2. 如果想象中的未来痛苦非常高的话,那么我们需要意志力才能走下去,这样往往很难;
  3. 如果你尝试改变但失败了,要么因为当下的痛苦不够,要么想象中的未来痛苦太大,所以你可以着眼于改变其中之一。
