Daily Productive Sharing 1102 - Democratising Publishing
One helpful tip per day:)
Recently, with ongoing controversies surrounding WordPress, Ghost (the platform we’re currently using) founder John O'Nolan shared their philosophy:
- He was previously a member of WordPress but left due to disagreements with its internal operations;
- After leaving, he and Hannah Wolfe launched a crowdfunding campaign to establish Ghost. In just 29 days, they raised $350,000 and registered Ghost as a non-profit organization;
- The main advantage of registering as a non-profit is the lack of ownership, which eliminates conflicts of interest and allows them to operate according to their values;
- Ghost’s business model is based on open-source software, with revenue generated through managed hosting services to sustain themselves. Over 12 years, they have consistently been profitable, with last year’s revenue exceeding $7.5 million.

最近 Wordpress 纷争不断,Ghost (也就是我们现在所用的平台)的创始人 John O'Nolan 介绍了他们的理念:
- 他之前曾是 Wordpress 的一员,因为看不惯里面的事情而离开;
- 离开之后,他和 Hannah Wolfe 发起了一个众筹,准备组建 Ghost。在短短29天内他们筹集到了35万美金,然后把 Ghost 注册成了一个非盈利组织;
- 注册成非盈利组织最大的好处就是没有所有人,不会有利益冲突,他们可以按照自己的理念做事;
- Ghost 的经营模式是以开源为基础,然后提供托管服务获得收益,用这部分收益养活自己。12年下来一直都盈利,去年他们的营收超过750万美金。
