Daily Productive Sharing 1142 - Stent
One helpful tip per day:)
2007 was the year the iPhone was launched, and it was also the year Om Malik underwent a coronary stent procedure. Coincidentally, it was a revolutionary year for coronary stent technology:
- The term stent originated with Charles Thomas Stent, a 19th-century British dentist who developed a compound for dental impressions;
- In 1977, Andreas Gruentzig performed the first coronary balloon angioplasty at the University Hospital Zurich. This groundbreaking procedure, despite numerous challenges, is widely considered the beginning of the modern era of coronary stents in cardiovascular medicine;
- According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases caused 19.91 million deaths in 2021, making them the leading global cause of death;
- Since 2007, new generations of drug-eluting stents have entered the market. They are sleeker, more reliable, and typically provide a better experience for patients;
- Today’s stents are ultra-thin and highly sophisticated, featuring advanced characteristics such as bioabsorbable polymers and thinner strut designs;
- Modern coronary stents use cobalt-chromium or platinum-chromium alloy platforms with struts as thin as 60-65 micrometers, a significant reduction compared to first-generation bare-metal stents and first-generation drug-eluting stents, which were 130-140 micrometers thick;
- GLP-1 drugs are improving cardiovascular health by aiding weight loss, reducing plaque buildup, enhancing vessel flexibility, and controlling blood pressure. According to recent data, GLP-1 drugs may reduce the number of stent procedures, potentially decreasing the need for invasive interventions;
- He doesn’t aim to live forever; he simply wants to enjoy the life he has—whether it’s a day, a decade, or thirty years. Either way, he hopes to give himself the best chance to fully embrace life.

2007年是 iPhone 发布的那一年,也是 Om Malik 接受心脏支架手术的那一年。这一年恰好也是心脏支架发生革命性变化的一年:
- 心脏支架(英文是 stent)这一术语起源于19世纪的一位英国牙医 Charles Thomas Stent,他开发了一种用于牙模的化合物;
- 1977年,Andreas Gruentzig 在苏黎世大学医院完成了第一次冠状动脉球囊成形术。这一突破性手术尽管面临许多挑战,但被广泛认为是现代心血管医学支架时代的开端;
- 美国心脏协会 的数据显示,2021年,心血管疾病导致了1991万例死亡,成为全球死亡的主要原因;
- 自2007年以来,新一代药物洗脱支架进入市场。它们更精致、更可靠,通常为患者提供更好的体验;
- 如今的支架超薄且高度复杂,配备了可生物吸收聚合物和更薄的支架设计等先进特性;
- 现代冠状动脉支架使用钴铬或铂铬合金平台,支架厚度仅为60-65微米,与第一代裸金属支架和第一代药物洗脱支架的130-140微米相比有了显著减小;
- GLP-1类药物正在通过帮助减重、减少斑块堆积、改善血管柔韧性以及控制血压来改善心血管健康。 据一些最新数据显示,GLP-1类药物可能会减少支架手术的数量,从而降低对侵入性手术的需求;
- 他并不是想活到永远,他只是想享受我拥有的生活——无论是一日、一十年,还是三十年。不管怎样,他希望能为自己争取最大的可能性去享受生活。
