Daily Productive Sharing 1154 - Pay for Twice
One helpful tip per day:)
When we purchase an item, we actually pay twice: the first payment is monetary, and the second payment is with our time when we use it. David Cain emphasizes the importance of focusing on the second payment:
- To truly benefit from something, you must pay the second price, which can often be much higher than the first.
- The first price only brings returns once the second price is paid.
- Paying only the first price is essentially the same as throwing money away.
- No matter how many cool things you acquire, you don’t gain additional time or energy to pay their second prices.
- In the pursuit of fulfillment, we continuously pay first prices, leading to an overwhelming debt of unpaid second prices.
- To avoid unnecessary first prices, align your lifestyle around paying certain second prices.
- Although paying the second price might sound unpleasant, it’s a process you can gradually develop a taste for. Once you do, the experience becomes invigorating.

当我们购买一件物品时,其实需要支付两次,第一次是购买时用金钱支付,第二次是使用时用时间支付。David Cain 强调我们更需要关注第二次支付:
- 为了真正利用一件事物,你必须支付第二种代价,而这个代价可能远高于第一种代价;
- 只有当你支付了第二种代价时,第一种代价才能看到回报;
- 只支付第一种代价,就等同于把钱扔进垃圾桶;
- 无论你获得多少酷炫的东西,你都不会因此拥有更多的时间或精力来支付它们的第二种代价;
- 在追求满足感的过程中,我们不断支付第一种代价,导致了相应巨大的第二种代价债务;
- 为了避免不必要的第一种代价,请将你的生活方式围绕第二种代价来调整;
- 支付第二种代价,尽管听起来令人不悦,却是一种可以慢慢培养兴趣的过程。当你适应了它,这种体验是令人振奋的。
