What happens when you suddenly become extremely wealthy but feel empty? Loom co-founder Vinay Hiremath reflects on his journey:

1. After selling his company, he found himself in an incomprehensible position—he had unlimited freedom but didn’t know how to use it.
2. Letting go of a $60 million salary was difficult. He had more money than he could ever spend, but contemplating such figures triggered strange mental reactions.
3. Having devoted ten years to a single pursuit, it was hard to let go of the certainty and purpose he had grown accustomed to.
4. The company’s growth trajectory exceeded anything he had ever dreamed of. He was happy and felt secure. Even if it all vanished tomorrow, he believed he would be fine.
5. Loom’s growth created a complex web of internalized insecurities that he now has to work hard to untangle and overcome.
6. Currently, he is in Hawaii studying physics. Why? He tells himself it’s to build a foundation in first principles so he can one day start a company that creates tangible, real-world things.
7. It had been a long time since he was fully honest with himself, so he maintains a healthy humility about everything he says and does. It’s the only way that feels authentic.
