Macro photography required special lenses to make it possible, such as the bulky Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS. The iPhone 13 does this in a tiny body with a combination of a wide-angle lens and algorithms. Today's article comes from Halide, a camera app, where they describe what macro photography is and how the iPhone enables it. Of course after reading this article, you can get this feature on other iPhones even if you don't have an iPhone 13.

  1. the name for macro photography is not micro photography, due to an 1899 article that refers to any photo with a magnification of more than 10x as micro photography.
  2. the automatic gearbox is a layer of abstraction compared to the manual gearbox, so that the driver does not have to worry about shifting gears.
  3. Open the Halide app and click the AF button to activate the manual focus mode, which has a small flower icon that activates the macro mode when clicked. The small flower is the universal symbol of macro mode, and because the designer of Halide is Dutch, the tulip was chosen.
  4. As long as the iPhone with Neural engine after 2017 can use Halide's macro mode.
