Kevin Kelly divides technology problems into two categories.
- the first category is problems that arise during the immature stage of the technology.
- the second category is problems that arise when the technology is mature.
The two arise for different reasons, so the way to solve them is different.
For example, face recognition has been used on a large scale, but this technology is not perfect, for example, many models cannot recognize minorities due to unbalanced labeled data. Hence, many problems at this stage are inaccurate recognition problems, which belong to the first type of problems KK said. But as the technology evolves and the models become more and more capable, it will be necessary to rethink privacy issues and even how to define the public and private domains. This is the second type of problem KK is talking about. The first type of problem is mostly solved by the market, while the second type of problem often needs to be solved beyond the power of the market.
