Arun Venkatesan shared some insights on how he configures his desktop, and there are five principles that he follows:

1. Objects must form an emotional bond with the user
2. Prefer the preowned classic to the brand new, unproven product.
3. Minimize clutter and distractions. Part of this is picking a light, minimal color palette.
4. Support as many different types of work as possible without needing rarely used specialized equipment.
5. Change and iterate as my needs change.
