One helpful tip per day:)

Noah Smith believes that the current idea of regulating AI development to protect jobs is wrong:

  1. Thinking that AI innovation can be shaped to protect workers is a mistake because it is impossible to predict which technologies will enhance human capabilities and which technologies will replace human labor.
  2. Looking back at the Second Industrial Revolution, many related labor forces were replaced. It is not just directly related labor forces that will be replaced, but these replacements may need to be seen over a long time dimension to understand.
  3. What economists should do is to give workers more rights and establish mechanisms for redistribution, such as improving labor and establishing welfare institutions.

Noah Smith 认为当下为了保护就业而规范 AI 发展的思路大错特错:

  1. 认为可以塑造AI创新以保护工人的想法是错误的,因为无法预测哪些技术将增强人类的能力,哪些技术将取代人类的劳动力;
  2. 回看第二次工业革命,很多相关的劳动力都被取代,并不是直接相关的劳动力才被取代,但这些取代可能需要放在很长的时间维度里才能看清;
  3. 经济学家应该要做的是:赋予劳动力更多权利,并创立重新分配的机制,例如提高劳动力和建立福利国家。
